Dynamic control: Greedy, turnpike, constraints and some applications

Abstract: In most real life applications Mathematics not only face the challenge of modelling (typically by means of ODE and/or PDE), analysis and computer simulations but also the need of control and design. And the successful development of adequate computational tools for control and design cannot be achieved by simply superposing the state of the art on Mathematical and Numerical Analysis. In this lecture we will summarize some of the recent work developed in our group, motivated by different applications (such as the sonic boom minimisation in aeronautics, or the guidance by repulsion in collective dynamics), that have led to various analytical and numerical methodologies to circumvent these difficulties.

We shall mainly focus on the following three topics

  • The turnpike property: Long time control topics
  • Parameter-depending problems
  • The need of preserving some natural constraints

This lecture has been conceived for a broad audience. Accordingly, unnecessary technicalities will be achieved, and some perspectives for future research will be presented.
